Threads, An Instagram App!
With all that is going on in and around Twitter: Mergers, Limitations, verifications, validations, layoffs and many others
Mark Zuckerberg and Meta is looking to fill the void that is being created here.
Simply put Meta has launched a Twitter rival [Straight fight] i.e. “Threads”
My preliminary observations read this as a fantastic move given the opportunity that is in front of Meta.
1. Retention issues with Twitter: We have seen some user base that is really not interested to keep adapting to policy changes frequently
2. Algorithm Tweaks: The way Twitter has been playing around with its timeline algorithm, time now for a genuine one (Hope it’s not in line with what Instagram Algo did earlier — The mess up)
3. Verified Status: Verified accounts enjoyed a privilege on Twitter [Let’s be honest]. This is available today for $8
4. Ads businesses go South: All those ad agencies and ad makers need another trustworthy player to be able to get on with their regular jobs
5. Fake news vs Freedom of Speech: Twitter has grown too big and is able to drive geo-political, economic and many other Earth-shattering public commands.
The audience is not sure if they are consuming the right information or one made by bots
6. Online bullying: Twitter over time has become a place for bullying and needs a quick fix here
7. Privacy & Data Security: Instances of data breaches have rocked the system
8. Limits: Daily limits with respect to the number of tweets one can read (a big no-no)
If Threads is able to address if not all but a few of the above we can see a rise of new big players in social media circles.
Let the numbers speak :
Total Twitter users: 450 Million [Monthly Active Users]
Total Instagram Users: 2.4 Billion Users
Even if we consider 1/10 users are ready to explore the space we are looking at around 240 Million active users already [More than half the size of Twitter].
5 Million Signups in 4 Hours!
What is stopping you from exploring?
Happy Threading!
This is going to be a really interesting space to watch out.
